When SEO Backfires… A Cautionary Tale

When SEO Backfires... A Cautionary TaleI’m a pretty calm dude… born and raised in Southern California, but I’m also driven to succeed and can be pretty competitive (and sometimes, aggressive).

So it’s no surprise that I take tasks head on, full-steam ahead (and this includes my SEO campaigns for myself and my clients).

However, this can sometimes bite you in the arse… [Read more...]

Why SEO’s Shouldn’t Fixate on Keyword Rankings & Other SEO News…

Why SEOs Shouldnt Fixate on Keyword Rankings & Other SEO News...I came across a great article on the topic of keyword rankings that I’d like to share.

Basically, it’s saying that all keywords are NOT created equal… what really matters is if they get you more business or not (at least that’s what I took from the post).

Check it out…

NY Times Outs Major Retailer for Link Spam & Other SEO News...Not too long ago, I posted about the importance of doing SEO right (that is, by not spamming your links and using “black hat” techniques)…

The thing is, I know why people do it… because it works… for a time. It’s like anything in life, taking a shortcut might mean instant results… take steroids for example.

However, taking shortcuts usually has consequences, as well… Look no further than what’s recently happened to JC Penney…

3 Ways to Recycle Your SEO Content

3 Ways to Recycle Your SEO ContentRecently, I was talking about creating SEO content for your site by coming up with 10-20 FAQ’s and answers that will help your customers learn more about you and help solve their problems…

And this is a great way to come up with search-engine optimized content for your website!

However, I’d like to take it a step further and tell you about a way to maximize the time and energy you put into creating this content by recycling it.

For example, it doesn’t really do any good to have a website ranked at the top of Google search results for a great keyword if you don’t have a sales funnel set up to lead your prospects down a path that leads to a sale!

To do this, you’ll want to create a capture page or opt-in form and set up an email autoresponder to follow up with your prospects.

That’s right — even more content you need to create!

But it doesn’t have to be a daunting task if you do a little recycling…

Here are 3 ways to recycle your SEO Content that will help you get more traffic, capture it, and convert it… [Read more...]

Stop Spamming Your SEO Nonsense!

Stop Spamming Your SEO Nonsense!Today I’m going to rant a little and share a pet-peeve of mine when it comes to SEO…

It’s actually the main reason most business owners are either wasting their time or money when it comes to search engine optimization…

==>Let me give you an example… Have you ever tried to do a Google search and got nothing but spammy, crap info for the results?

Doesn’t it just chap your hide?

Here you are trying to find some useful information to help you make an informed decision about (insert problem here)… and thanks to all the SEO “experts” out there, you can’t find anything helpful.

My question is, “What good is it to rank at the top of the search results for a keyword if you just end up pissing your potential customer off?”

So how do you do SEO the right way, you ask?

Simple… [Read more...]

Good or Bad, SEO is a product of consistency

Good or Bad, SEO is a product of consistencyLittle by little, I have gained weight over the past couple years…

I have “accomplished” this by doing 2 things consistently…

  1. I’ve decreased my activity by sitting on the computer more than ever.
  2. I’ve consumed more calories per day than I used to.

It was a big wake up call for me the other day when I got on some website and entered my height and weight… 6’2 and 260… and it told me I was obese!

Now, let me tell you something… I’m a lot of things, but obese is not a label I’m ready to submit to!

So I looked for an iPhone app to track my calories…

I even found a free one that I can’t believe they’re not charging for (http://www.myfitnesspal.com if anyone’s interested).

This was on the way to a wedding in Colorado a week ago. Here were my prospects…

  • 4 days of travel (aka no exercise)
  • plenty of fast food and restaurants
  • plus Wedding food!

Things were not looking promising… [Read more...]
