Facebook Marketing Best Practice Guide (5 Takeaways)

Facebook Marketing Best Practice Guide (5 Takeaways)Have you seen the “Best Practice Guide” Facebook came out with?

Obviously, Facebook sees that businesses are using their platform to promote their products and services… so they decided to come out with a PDF guide to help businesses do so…

Download it here.

Of course, they’re not just doing this out of the “goodness of their heart”… they’re doing it because they’re making money from all the advertising dollars businesses spend with them, and they’d like to make sure businesses keep spending money on Facebook.

But I see it as an excellent example of how Facebook practices what they preach… this is a very social thing they’re doing by distributing this PDF, is it not?

Anyway, there are a few key things I’d like to expand upon from this book… [Read more...]

Facebook Debuts Deals In San Diego

Facebook Debuts Deals In San DiegoThat’s right, you can now subscribe to Facebook Deals in Atlanta, Austin, Dallas, San Diego and San Francisco…

This new feature is different than the “Facebook Places Deals” that are integrated into mobile check-ins, which will be renamed soon…

Facebook is now going to compete with Groupon in the group buying arena. I know, we are all up to our eyeballs in “deals” but there’s something unique here…  Facebook Deals will focus on social experiences, rather than deep discounts that many similar services such as Groupon and LivingSocial provide.

How does the Facebook deal work exactly? [Read more...]

Why I Drink Guinness, Not Bud Light

Why I Drink Guinness, Not Bud LightI was talking with a client the other day and he said something very interesting to me…

He’s a brand new client (and brand new to the Internet) so we were talking about our goals for his Facebook Page

He’s from the same small town Monique’s mom is from, so I thought it would be helpful to use her Facebook Page as an example… “But Derek,” he says, “She only has about 1,000 fans – I hope we can do better than that!”

Here’s what I said… [Read more...]

Why Social Media Marketing Pisses Me Off!

Why Social Media Marketing Pisses Me Off!Does your Social Media Marketer know any more than you do?

I had a meeting yesterday with a couple of people that just left me, well, pissed off…

You know the old saying, “Count to 10 when you get mad”?  Well, I counted to 10 and then to 10,000 and 24 hours later I’m still mad!

Many business owners are acting as guinea pigs for Social Media Marketers today [Read more...]

Do Facebook Users Hate Corporations?

Do Facebook Users Hate Corporations?Monique’s post yesterday got me thinking about how much more difficult it is for us to get a Social Media following for our clients if they are franchise owners…

What we’ve found to be the biggest challenge is getting people to interact and connect with the business if it is part of a larger corporation.

Now, I’m not going to say it’s impossible, because we’ve proven that it is…

However, what I am saying is that it’s more of a challenge and takes a bit longer to develop a following for our franchise owner clients.

How do we overcome this challenge, you ask?

Here are 3 things we do to take the “robot out of corporate”… [Read more...]

Facebook Deals: Reward Your Customers for Spreading the Word

Facebook Deals: Reward Your Customers for Spreading the Word

In the past 2 posts, we’ve talked about how to create a Facebook Place and how to merge it with your existing Fan Page

And I promised to explain in more detail how this can help your business, so here goes…

The reason it’s a good idea to make your Facebook Page have the “Places” funcionality is twofold…

  1. People can “check in” to your business, which lets all their “sphere of influence” know what they’re up to, thus promoting your business to all their friends.
  2. You can encourage people to check in by using Facebook “Deals,” which is only available when you have a Facebook “Place.”

The Value of Deals… [Read more...]

How to Merge Your Facebook Place with Your Business Page

How to Merge Your Facebook Place with Your Business Page

Last post, we talked about what a Facebook Place is and how it can help you spread the word about your business…

We also talked about how to create a Facebook Place if you don’t already have one.

As you have already seen, it’s pretty easy to do… and you can even use it as a Fan Page, which is the way we recommend you use Facebook to promote your business.

However, if you already have a Facebook Fan Page… complete with an established fan base and following, you are not going to want 2 different Pages (which will just confuse your customers) NEITHER are you going to want to ditch the established Page to rebuild a following on the new one.

What to do, what to do?… [Read more...]

Should You Sweat Negative Yelp Reviews?

Should You Sweat Negative Yelp Reviews? If you are a small business owner and you haven’t heard of Yelp, allow me to introduce this site to you…

Basically, it’s a website that lets your customers review your business… whether good or bad… they’re all there for the whole world to see!
