Internet Marketing

Internet MarketingInternet marketing (aka web marketing, online marketing, or e-marketing) refers to the method(s) of marketing products or services over the Internet.

That’s right, the Internet is no longer dominated by filthy websites and perverts!

And recently, small businesses have begun to see the value of using the Internet to market their brick-and-mortar businesses.

That’s where we come in ;)

As the Internet becomes more prevalent and accessible in our day-to-day lives, you have to wonder about what will happen to businesses that don’t adapt and get their message in front of the masses.

Furthermore, it’s essential that business owners understand the nature of Internet Marketing!

For example, the interactive nature of Internet marketing can be a good thing or a bad thing… depending on how you handle it.

Say someone complains about your product or service to 10,000 of their followers on Twitter… you better respond quickly and publicly if you want to save your reputation! The worst thing you could do is ignore it, or worse… not even know about it in the first place.

And although Internet Marketing in general is pretty broad in scope, you can conquer this beast with a good game plan and by focusing on a few strategies… as opposed to ALL of them.

So, what are some Internet Marketing Strategies, you ask?

  • SEO (Search Engine Optimization)

This is the method of optimizing your website for the search engines so they rank you “on top” and you get lots of free traffic for relevant keywords.

  • PPC (Pay-per-click)

This is where you pay Google, Facebook, Yahoo, Bing, etc. to advertise your website for relevant search terms or demographics.

  • Social Media Marketing

This is basically “online networking”… examples of Social Media sites include Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Squidoo, HubPages, Blogs etc.

  • Email Marketing

This is a very important aspect of Internet Marketing, because you want to maximize your website traffic by collecting people’s contact info and following up with them on a regular basis.

Why Internet Marketing kicks arse…

  • You can target specific demographics, either based on their location, behavior, or interests… as opposed to “throwing something out there and seeing what sticks.”

As an Internet Marketer, you have the advantage of being able to segment your markets according to age group, gender, geography, and other general factors. For example, a kayak company can post advertisements on kayaking and canoeing websites with the full knowledge that the audience has a related interest.

  • Internet Marketing is relatively inexpensive compared to traditional advertising.

Companies today can reach a wide audience for a small fraction of traditional advertising budgets.

  • Internet Marketing is easily trackable.

Nearly all aspects of an Internet Marketing campaign can be traced, measured, and tested… When running a paid ad campaign, for example, you can choose to pay per impression, pay per click, pay per play, or pay per action.

Not only that, you can track conversions based on the keywords and demographics you are targeting. You can even test your landing pages, headlines, ad copy, offer, etc… the sky’s the limit!

In fact, because the overall efficiency of an Internet Marketing campaign is easier to track than traditional off-line advertising… Internet Marketing can offer a greater sense of accountability for advertisers.

To sum it up, you’ll know whether your Internet Marketing campaign is working or not… which keeps us on our toes and you in the know ;)
